Vision: with intelligent use of space and resources, the world around us can provide for many of our basic needs. A connection to the productive and creative capacity of the Earth is lacking in much of the modern suburban American lifestyle. Locally grown foods are healthier, better tasting and better for the environment. Reduced dependence on imported goods and increased local production is essential for our national economy to recover from its massive debt. With planning, inventive action and adaptation we can leave the consumption-based, socially depleted suburban paradigm behind for the healthy, productive future of “Superbia.”

Beyond: in addition to the garden, we are exploring other opportunities for decreased consumption and increased production at the micro-community level. Projects in progress at our house include saving, recapturing and producing food, water, electricity and even furniture. We hope to challenge assumptions about the necessity of consumption and progress toward a more self-reliant existence. Let us live freely and construct the world around us as we would like it to be.
